Dredging Case of 159mm Ultra High Tube Float in Australia Introduction

In order to support the expansion plan of XXX Port, it is necessary to carry out efficient and environmentally friendly dredging in the offshore area to remove the deposited silt and sand to ensure the navigation capacity of the waterway. Traditional steel pipelines have problems such as heavy weight and poor corrosion resistance. The customer finally chose the 159mm ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) floating dredging pipeline system provided by our company to achieve high wear resistance and salt spray corrosion resistance dredging operations.

Core technical parameters of the project

Pipeline specifications

Material: ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE, molecular weight ≥ 2.5 million)

Diameter: 159mm (outer diameter)

Wall thickness: 12mm (custom reinforced design)

Single length: 6m/section (flange connection, equipped with quick disassembly interface)

Working pressure: 1.6MPa (maximum tolerance pressure 2.5MPa)

Floating system

Floating material: high-density polyethylene (HDPE) shell + polyurethane foam filling

Single floating body load-bearing: ≥80kg (to ensure that the pipeline is stably suspended on the water surface)

UV-resistant treatment: adding UV stabilizer to adapt to Australia's strong sunshine environment

System advantages

Wear resistance: UHMWPE wear resistance index is 4 times that of steel pipe, suitable for dredging media with high sand content.

Corrosion resistance: resistant to seawater, acid and alkali, with a service life of more than 20 years.

Lightweight: The weight is only 1/8 of the same specification steel pipe, reducing transportation and installation costs.

Project implementation details

Dredging volume: Cumulative transportation of silt mixture is about 150,000 cubic meters.

Construction environment:

Seawater salinity: 3.5%-4%

Transportation distance: 1.2 kilometers one-way from the shoreline to the operation area

Medium characteristics: Contains 30% fine sand, 10% shell debris, flow rate 2m/s

Supporting equipment:

Dutch-made dredging pump connected to our company's pipeline (flow rate 200m³/h)

GPS positioning floating anchoring system (error <0.5m)

Customer Benefits Cost Savings

Installation efficiency increased by 40%, no heavy lifting equipment required.

Maintenance costs reduced by 60%, no rust, no need for regular coating repair.

Environmental compliance

Complies with the environmental protection requirements of Australia's Marine Environment Protection Act (2021 revised version) for dredging equipment.

The pipeline can be recycled to reduce the carbon footprint.

Long-term reliability

After the project, the pipeline system was retained as a backup for future maintenance, and the customer reported zero leakage records.

Industry Application Expansion

This case verifies the applicability of ultra-high pipes in the following scenarios:

Deep-sea mining tailings transportation

Low-disturbance dredging in coral reef protection areas

Estuary delta sediment management
